The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system that provides location and time information. It consists of a network of 24 satellites placed in orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. Originally designed for military use, GPS is now accessible for civilian, commercial, and global use. It works in all weather conditions and can be used 24/7, anywhere on Earth, as long as there’s a clear line of sight to at least four GPS satellites. It is maintained by the United States government and is free to use with a GPS receiver, without subscription fees or setup charges.
